13140 days


Nice shirts guys!

On Sunday I celebrated my 36th. b-day - 13140 days I have walked this planet. One Step Closer...

Finally get to update this thing. My in-laws have dial-up and it moves at a snails pace. This is the first time that I actually felt like staying on in Saskatoon! It felt like home - It is and always will be my home. I have a psychic (mental/spiritual) connection there. It is comfortable.

Even after living in Vancouver for 5 years, I still do not have the same connection as I do to the city that I grew up in. Is this true of the rest of you? You cannot shake the connection to the place of your birth or formative years?

Had a great time in Saskatoon. Saw a few old friends. We felt like parolees on the loose - squeezing all the movies, meals and starbucks visits we could while having the luxury of free child-care!

Saw Devil Wears Prada (I wore my Prada sunglasses) and Miami Vice (I wore my pink t-shirt, white linen jacket with rolled up sleeves and sockless feet).

Prada - good, not great
Vice - very very good. Michael Mann is incapable of making a bad movie. His films all have that hazy, gritty look to them (check out Heat and Collateral). One criticis, - the chinese villian had a strong accent which made it hard to decipher what she was saying.

Will try to update more frequently - am now in Regina at my folks place - cable, wireless for my laptop and some hyper-fast dell supercomputer.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean about Saskatoon! It does have a comfortable feeling about it. People and things have changed alot since we grew up there but it is always nice to go home and hang out in Saskatoon. I have been away since '94 but still think of it as home. I will be there next week, can't wait!

So true Santosh. I stop in from time to time. Looks like all is well.

Whine and Geez

Last night we hosted a wine and cheese party for our floor. Out of the 11 other people that live on our floor, 5 came over. It was really fun. We had 3 kinds of cheese, crackers, red wnd white wine, baklava, fruit and other goodies. It was really great getting to know some of the folks on our floor. We have always talked about doing it so it was nice to finally pull it off. One of our neigbours is a concierge at the 4 seasons. She said one of the oddest guest requests was a guest from Texas who wanted 100 A&W ketchup packets. He said he really liked their ketchup - I guess. Finished " Joyful Exiles " so unfortunately no more excerts for you - buy the book. Have moved on to " A Grief Observed " by C.S. Lewis . Coaster goes up (a little)

Unused photo from the Globe and Mail shoot. So, last night and all day today I was on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Vancouver. Quite auspicious surroundings for church council/pastors meetings! there were stunning views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park and the downtown buildings. The meetings were lengthy, exhausting and a lot of work. Basically, FBC has been on a year long journey of crafting its vision statement and core values - we did it with the assistance of a coach from Outreach Canada. We are coming down the home stretch and needed to hammer out everything for presentation to the congregation. Today was the first day that I have begun to feel lighter and ready to resume the work. Although still feeling wounded from this whole mess, I'm ready to limp on. Christmas Mourning in Newtown Connecticut

Safe Today I have spent this past week in the company of hundreds of elementary school children. I pick up and drop off Adam and Sophia every school day - so I have grown accustomed to many of the same faces of  children and parents. With the two Christmas presentations this week - I have spent even extra time at the school and with the kids. And that is why I almost threw up when I heard the news coming out of Newton Connecticut - which is 4 hours from Ithaca New York - the town we are relocating to next year. A 20 year old man entered an elementary school and started shooting. At the end of his rampage 27 people were killed including 18 .... children. He shot and killed 18 children. Children like my children. Children like the kids I see everyday. Children who probably sang at Christmas concerts this past week for proud parents. (Sunday December 16 Update - Total Number killed 28 - 20 children, 6 teachers, shooter and shooter's mother.) Today has become a day...
