Disorder of Canada

Dr. Henry Morgentaler -
Order of Canada recipient and
Canada's abortion doctor #1.

In case you haven't heard, the foremost abortionist in Canada, Dr. Henry Morgentaler has been awarded the Order of Canada - the American equivalent would be the Congressional Medal of Honor - the highest honor a civilian can receive.

As you can imagine, this honor has stoked the fires of controversy in our fair land. Personally, I am deeply saddened by the award. Morgentaler has given his life to making abortion as easily accessible to as many Canadian women as possible.

According to the official web-site, the award "recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation."

Let's see, Morgentaler performed illegal abortions for years, in open defiance of the law. He has openly ridiculed the catholic church, and conservative Christians for years. He has made Canada a nation where 3 million unborn babies have been killed in the past 20 years.
Morgentaler has led Canada into a culture of death. His achievement, dedication and service have all been entirely to one segment of society who considers the developing fetus, mere human tissue. If the fetus is just tissue, then why do women mourn their mis-carriages? I wish the good doctor could answer that.

I once saw Morgentaler debate my friend, Michael Horner. Morgentaler was brutal - he could not make a single cogent argument for atheism, and kept bringing up the topic of abortion again and again. Horner won the debate, when the audience voted after.

For Canada to bestow the highest civilian honor to this man, simply shows where we are as a nation. We no longer care for the "least of these" among us, and instead reward those who carry out violence against them.

On the topic of abortion, I stand with Jim Wallis who states that he wants to work towards a society where abortion is not needed -that is that there would be many other options available to women facing an unwanted pregnancy - adoption, community support, financial resources, etc. I believe that Wallis does not actually want to outlaw abortion, but work towards bringing abortion levels as low as possible. I think even the most rabid pro-choicers would agree that a lower abortion rate in a society is a good thing.

Aborting a child is already outlawed in Canada.

Section 223 of the Canadian Criminal Code refers to “a child before or during its birth”. The author of Section 223 admits that a “child” in the body of its mother is in “a living state”.

Section 218 of the Canadian Criminal Code states:
“Every one who unlawfully abandons or exposes a child who is under the age of ten years, so that its life is or is likely to be endangered or its health is or is likely to be permanently injured,
(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or
(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding eighteen months.”.

It is unlawful in Canada to abandon or expose a child so that its life is endangered.

Aborting a child involves abandoning or exposing a child so that its life is endangered.

Aborting a child is unlawful in Canada.

People should have the “right to choose” to have Section 218 of the Canadian Criminal Code enforced.
