starbucks for everyone


today i was supossed to go to regent with someone but he never showed up so i went alone. i renewed some library books and bought some other books: a bible for mike, 2 manuals - one for weddings and one for funerals and the canadian book of common prayer.

came back and had dim sum with the family. as we were walking back to the office i thought i should buy starbucks for a couple of the people in the office but thought it was too much bother. felicia grabbed onto this idea and told me she would buy. so i called the office and told them all to give us their orders. in actual fact, felicia only wanted to buy coffees for a couple of the really hard working office staff - not every single person in the office. but i hadn't made that clear. so we got an order for 5 lattes, 1 short mocha, 1 vanilla latte with whip, 1 almond latte, 1 soy mocha w. no whip and 1 extra hot mocha w. whip.

i walked out of starbucks with 2 trays piled on top of each other with 5 drinks on each - it would have made a good picture. needless to say everyone was quite happy about our little car package. and we were quite happy to share with everyone not just a couple of people.

still pounding away at the sermon - for the first time i will have to go in tomorrow to finish it off. don't worry i'll take monday off!

We are several months out of even the most limited pandemic restrictions. I cannot remember the last time I wore a mask. When I see someone wearing a mask, it feels nostalgic - a reminder of a strange time when that person was the norm and I - the unmasked one would look strange. Coaster goes up (a little)

Unused photo from the Globe and Mail shoot. So, last night and all day today I was on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Vancouver. Quite auspicious surroundings for church council/pastors meetings! there were stunning views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park and the downtown buildings. The meetings were lengthy, exhausting and a lot of work. Basically, FBC has been on a year long journey of crafting its vision statement and core values - we did it with the assistance of a coach from Outreach Canada. We are coming down the home stretch and needed to hammer out everything for presentation to the congregation. Today was the first day that I have begun to feel lighter and ready to resume the work. Although still feeling wounded from this whole mess, I'm ready to limp on. Where the Light Falls

I've read two books by Augustine - City of God and Confessions. I think I've read his confessions 3 times. I like him because he is a good writer, has lots of self-insight, and loves God passionately. He was very honest about his pre-Christian life. At one point he makes this observation: "I had my back toward the light, and my face toward the things on which the light falls." Most people have their back to the light - and they focus where his light falls. Where the light falls refers to God's common grace. God does not keep good things only for those who follow him. Because he is good he distributes his blessings and grace widely. Where the light falls are places of grace: art, music, beauty, sunshine, loving relationships, a baby's smile.
