movie star watching a movie



so my mom is in town and felicia and i decide to go on a date! yipee! we start off by going to this place called memphis barbecue house - we ran into some good friends, we sat at their table but they had already paid the bill. the waiter was like, "what's going on here? i've got 3 groups waiting!" so that pretty much set the tone - he completely hated us from that time on. but the food was amazing - i love me some southern cooking. we had tons left over which will make a nice snack over the next couple of days.

next stop - a movie. we went to see 40 yr. old virgin starring steve carrell. as i'm standing in line, i glance over and there's a guy who looks a lot like robin williams. he is as short as me but really really well built. he stepped out of the line next to me to walk over to the cooler and get a couple of cokes. as he does this 3 people get into his line ahead of him. now he's really far back, but the guy at the back saw that he had been inline before so he let him go in front of him. the williams look-alike said "oh, thank you." when he spoke i knew it was him! when we were right next to each other i asked him are you robin williams. he said yes i am. i stuck out my hand and he shook it. i kind of leaned in like i was in on a big secret and said, "i'm a huge fan of your work." he said, well thank you. he was seeing the brothers grimm. then i asked him if vancouver was treating him well, he said, "oh, very well" with a smile and a friendly twinkle in his eye.

he ordered his stuff and was off. i was totally pumped whn i got back in to the theater with my ice cream bar!

robin william - woopee!!! that's 2 movie stars in 2 weeks!!! and these guys aren't lightweights - samuel l. jackson and robin williams are two HUGE stars.

the movie was funny too.

nice having mom around - she does a lot of stuff for adam. we gave adam the gifts we got him today - today he is 1 yr. old!!!!

big party for the little man tomorrow - can't wait! it'll be the first time we have a lot of our friends together.

We are several months out of even the most limited pandemic restrictions. I cannot remember the last time I wore a mask. When I see someone wearing a mask, it feels nostalgic - a reminder of a strange time when that person was the norm and I - the unmasked one would look strange. Coaster goes up (a little)

Unused photo from the Globe and Mail shoot. So, last night and all day today I was on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Vancouver. Quite auspicious surroundings for church council/pastors meetings! there were stunning views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park and the downtown buildings. The meetings were lengthy, exhausting and a lot of work. Basically, FBC has been on a year long journey of crafting its vision statement and core values - we did it with the assistance of a coach from Outreach Canada. We are coming down the home stretch and needed to hammer out everything for presentation to the congregation. Today was the first day that I have begun to feel lighter and ready to resume the work. Although still feeling wounded from this whole mess, I'm ready to limp on. Where the Light Falls

I've read two books by Augustine - City of God and Confessions. I think I've read his confessions 3 times. I like him because he is a good writer, has lots of self-insight, and loves God passionately. He was very honest about his pre-Christian life. At one point he makes this observation: "I had my back toward the light, and my face toward the things on which the light falls." Most people have their back to the light - and they focus where his light falls. Where the light falls refers to God's common grace. God does not keep good things only for those who follow him. Because he is good he distributes his blessings and grace widely. Where the light falls are places of grace: art, music, beauty, sunshine, loving relationships, a baby's smile. But - these things are not the light - to enjoy and encounter the light, we must turn around and follow the rays of light back to the source. What is the source of beauty, love, and truth?
