Life flow

Well, I have heard from a couple of people that they are actually reading this thing so it looks like it will stick around for awhile. In the past three days I have had two seperate people e-mail me who both have a parent who has just been diagnosed with cancer. I also recieved the good news that my cousin in Langley had a baby boy named Liam. It is so odd how life appears so random at times. One person is struck with tragedy, while someone else celebrates a miracle. I am struck that there are really two primary options for viewing life: 1. Life is a random series of events that have no real purpose and which we have no control over. 2. Life is an orchestrated plan of events over which we have some control. These events may appear random but there is Someone orchestrating them for an ultimate purpose which we will see someday. if you live life believing it is completely random (as my doctor does) then I am not sure how you keep yourself from falling into a deep depression due to the me...

Sunday Sunday

Man it was an awesome sermon this morning. Our pastor talked about how we have to be creative and innovative as we move forward in ministry as a church. There was also a very good offertory song done by some of my friends. I forgot the song but they had 2 guitars, drums and a bass and sounded great. Felicia decided to treat me to dinner to celebrate the fact that Adam is sitll alive after spending most of the week alone with me! We went to a restaurant that i think is called chutney Villa - something Villas. It is at Broadway and Main. The food is all south Indian (where I am originally from) - The food was awesome but the service was indifferent, bordering on hostile. So here is my philosophy on tipping I start off at 15% - this is if the service is pretty standard - the server smiles and makes a half way attempt to pretend to like me. I go up to 20-25% if the service is exceptional and then make it a point to tell the manager as well. If the service sucks (like today) I used to give ...

Spent the day with the boy today - Felicia was working. He was perfect all day until he had to go to sleep. It's quite hot these days and the heat is driving him nuts - poor little guy. Yesterday I interviewed Steve Stockman who is the author of a book on U2. He's a really cool guy and I'm going to write up the interview for Relevant. I don't know how much longer I'm going to keep this blog up. I'm not sure if anyone reads it. Anyone out there?

Lazy Day

This could well go down as one of the laziest day of my life. Rolled around in bed until about 9:00. Woke up and sat with Felicia and Adam and listened to a tape by Gordon Fee on preaching from paul. great quote "it is a sin to preach a boring sermon" - amen! then ate some breakfast, read my bible. then we all went downtown to look at a supossed sale at sport check but it didn't look like much of a sale. ambled back to yaletown. picked up some sushi and had a sort of picnic in the park. around 3:00 we came home and we all had a nap. i did a little reading and then feeling guilty, went down to the treadmill for a quick work-out. had some supper, kissed felicia good-bye, put adam to sleep and then watched tv. now here i am. this boring day has ended up in one boring blog all apologies.

Mr. Mom

This was my first day being a stay-at-home dad as Felicia went back to work at the hospital. I'd like to say it went off without a hitch but there were a few bumps. During breakfast Adam choked twice which kind of freaked me out. And then everytime we got ready to go out he would start crying - I think he figured something was a bit off - i.e - no mom around. But I fed him, bathed him and got him off to sleep before Felicia got back. I did my final devotional for the volunteers at our church's homeless program tonight. i talked about transformation form Titus 3:3-7 where Paul says we have gone from being slaves to being heirs of the king - cool stuff. It's alwasy so mind blowing being at the shelter program. I helped sign people in tonight. It is mainly older men but tonight there were a few women - there was even a 16 yr. old girl. I always wonder what difficult path these people have walked - how do they get back on the right path? Recent finds: Books - Ascent of a Leader...

Victoria Day

Went to Superstore with Felicia and Adam today. Got inspired and bought some veal which I later cooked up using the most complicated recipe I have ever seen - I cooked parsnips - I never even knew what parsnips were before today. Also took Adam to Starbucks to meet some international students that come to our internationals ministry that I speak at every Friday. There's one really cool guy from Togo named Yowo (sp?). He's a very skilled chef who has worked at some of the best restaurants in the city - I really like the guy. Adam provided a lot of entertainment, wriggling around and yelling from time to time. Felicia goes back to work tomorrow which means I become Mr. Mom - could be great or could be another disaster in my life. What else - uh, almost finished the book Uneccesary Pastor by Eugene Peterson and Marva Dawn - Marva's concluding chapter on creating community should be required reading for all pastors - she just has so much wisdom and insight into what legitamte c...

First Blog

This is my first foray into the world of blogging. I am unsure why I am doing this. I try to journal on my own but it doesn't go so well - so maybe if I display my daily activities to the world I'll write more? I don't know. Let's see - where to start? I think there is somewhere else I can put my profile, so i won't tell you too much personal stuff here. Today I went to my church - First Baptist in Vancouver. My friend Kurtis led worship and he did a good job. The sermon was from Revelation 2 - it also was quite good. We (Felicia and Adam and I) came home and I made a Teriaki chicken and mushroom soup which turned out to be quite tasty, Then I fell asleep on the couch for an hour and a half! Normally I nap for 15-30 minutes so this was quite excessive today. I did some reading and then burned a few cds. We'll see how this blogging thing goes - hopefully I will have something more interesting to write about soon.
